RYA Safety Boat Course

The RYA Safety Boat course is a 2-day programme designed for confident powerboat drivers (must be over 18) who want to expand their skills beyond basic boat handling. Building on your existing knowledge, you will gain the competence to manage safety cover for fleets of dinghies, windsurfers, canoes, kayaks and other craft.
Delivered by experienced powerboat instructor, this course equips you with the skills to deal with a variety of on-water situations, from towing broken-down craft to managing rescues in challenging conditions. It is also a required qualification for those working towards becoming an RYA Senior Instructor.
What to expect
- Dinghy rescue techniques
- Windsurfer rescue
- Canoe and kayak rescue (may be taught as theory)

- End-of-day procedures and recovery

- Preparation and safety checks
Course pre-requisites: Powerboat Level 2 Certificate
Course duration: 2 days
Minimum age: 18 years
Trainee : Instructor ratio: 1:6
Provided with the course: RYA Safety Boat Handbook. Light refreshments
You will need: Writing materials, appropriate clothing, buoyancy aid or life jacket (will need to conform to standards)(we have limited number to loan so please get in touch if you need one) , sun-screen, packed lunch.
