CLUB RACING 2026

Great excitement and interest at the RYA Dinghy Show this last weekend with the Melges 15 launching their first UK Nationals as part of our Dinghy Regatta.

Melges 15 Charter boats are available for the event, with discounts for club members, to find out more visit https://melges15.com/pages/about-the-melges-15  or email  Liam Pardy liam@melges.uk .

 

A number of other classes have now expressed interest, and the event will be part of the Sailjuice Summer Series with more details to follow. In the meantime please help to spread the word and share with your sailing friends both locally and around the country.

The Notice of Race for the Torbay Dinghy Regatta is now published and Entry is open at https://rtyc.org/event/torbay-dinghy-regatta-2026/  

The Torbay Royal Regatta is shaping up to be a great event this year with two separate race areas  and multiple classes choosing Torquay for their championships. We are delighted to be hosting the IRC South West Championship and Impala Nationals. The J/24’s are returning, this time for the UK Nationals and for the first time in Torquay we are looking forward to welcoming the RS21 National Championships. We are expecting a strong Sportsboat entry especially from the SB20 class with their World Championships coming to Torquay in 2027.

CHAMPIONSHIPS 2026 & REFRESHER TRAINING FOR RACE TEAMS

Thank you to the many members who have already volunteered to help. We are planning a number of refresher training/briefing sessions  both on and off the water. These sessions will be 2.5 to 3 hrs and are intended for both new and experienced volunteers. They will cover a range of topics from Registration to Welcome, Beachmaster to Race Committee Boat, Safety and Mark laying. All aimed at developing and learning new skills, and building confidence and teamwork. Each session will be tailored to those attending.

The first dates and times are Tuesday 10th & 17th March at 18.30, Saturday 14th March at 9.30 and Thursday 19th March at 18.30. These  sessions will be held in the Billiard Room or Training Room and FREE Teas and Coffee will be available.

Further dates including those for on water sessions will follow next week.

The club has a really busy sailing season coming up with a programme of high profile and prestigious events, and sailors from around the world competing here in Torquay. There are many different roles that need to be filled, both on and off the water. ROLEX MIDDLE SEA RACE

A member’s colleague has signed up to race on Green Dragon, a VO70, in the Rolex Middle Sea Race, starting from Valletta, Malta, in October 2026.

He is a Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2023/24 sailor (single leg). The team includes a couple of ex-Clipper 68 RTW skippers and is ideally suited to experienced offshore sailors. There are still a few crew places available, subject to the entry being fully confirmed.
