Push the Boat Out 2019
May 18 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pmFree
We will start your session with a brief welcome and safety talk at the yacht club, we will also introduce you to the basics of sailing. Then we will escort you down to the harbour, where you’ll be put onto a rib for a fast ride out to your boat waiting for you in the bay. You will have around 45 minutes on the water, after which we will return to the yacht club for a quick debrief and some welcome refreshment.
You don’t need any specialist kit as we will provide everything; you just need some sensible clothing and appropriate footwear.
If you want to take part you can book now on this page for free, and we will take care of the rest.
Would you like a new way to get active outdoors or a fun activity you can enjoy together with your family? If the answer is yes, the Royal Torbay Yacht Club would love for you, your family and friends to come and try sailing with us on the 18th May.
Whether you are completely new to the sport or are just looking to get back on the water, our free sailing sessions offered as part of the RYA Push the Boat Out campaign is the perfect way to give it a go.
Starting at 9:00 am and running through the day, you can try your hand at sailing a dinghy, sportsboat or even a large yacht!
Sailing can be whatever you want it to be. A relaxing potter around Torbay on a sunny summer’s afternoon, or if you’re the competitive sport you can get involved in racing to really test your skills!
Which boat should I try?
For the experience of a larger boat that typically has to be crewed by several people and the teamwork that requires then try a yacht.
For the pure thrill of being close to the water in a smaller boat then try a dinghy. You need to be prepared to get a bit wet and not scared of falling in - but don't worry, we will provide you with a lifejacket.
Smaller than a yacht, but still with a fixed keel to provide stability. You will need to be reasonably agile and will enjoy a faster, closer to the water experience.
