The cruising group works to encourage all sailors to get out on the water and enjoy the fine cruising areas of the South West coast and beyond.
It is open to all sailing and motor yachts and organises a number of weekend rallies often linked to special events and always involving a great social programme.
Many sailors combine their racing with cruising and social gatherings during weekends away and offshore, these are always great fun
The South West coastline of Devon and Cornwall is one of the most popular and beautiful cruising areas in the country. The cruising destinations are varied in both size and character.
Falmouth and Plymouth with large deep water harbours and many marinas and anchorages and numerous interesting destinations further up river.
The facinating ports of Dartmouth and Fowey, the charm of the Yealm and buzz of Salcombe all have great character and offer suberb hospitality to the cruising sailor.
There are of course numerous other destinations, too many to mention.
Teignmouth and Exmouth are closeby going East with Lyme Regis and West Bay offering limited facilities. However the longer passage to Portland opens up a whole new cruising area heading up to the Solent and beyond.
Whilst for many their sailing focus is still on racing, there are however growing numbers of members who are look to cruising to fulfill their sailing ambitions. Many yachts already cruise our beautiful coastline and further afield to the Channel Islands, the Scillies and the Normandy and Brittany coastline. We are privileged to live and sail here.
The recently formed cruising section is keen to attract both sailing yachts and motor cruisers to join its programme of cruising events. Cruising weekends include trips to the Yealm, Dartmouth and Salcombe and beyond. They are often linked to other events in the area such as the Dartmouth Music and Food Festivals making the visit even more sociable and enjoyable
The Royal Torbay Yacht Club welcomes rallies from other clubs and cruising associations.
