Junior and Youth Fleets

The RSFeva_DSC0039-4, RS Tera, RSQuba and the 29er and RS 200 are our main Junior and Youth fleets. Junior Membership of the RTYC is £42 for the year (2015) and £35 to enter the Club Racing series. We encourage Members to have their own boats, but it is also possible to hire the club boats for training, racing and fun sessions. Six RS Q’bas, six RS Teras, two RS Fevas and a Cadets are available from £5 a day. The boats can be booked for all of the sessions that will be taking place the following week from midnight Saturday. This will be on a first come, first served basis,  through the Junior Sailing Co-ordinators  by email juniors@rtyc.org

The RS Feva, RS Tera, Cadets and 29er fleets all have organised squad training sessions which run through the Autumn and Winter. RTYC are very proud of their successes in these  Youth & Junior fleets over a number of years. We regularly have club members in RYA Zone, National Junior, Transitional and National Youth Squads. RTYC is a recognised RYA training centre, an RYA On Board Club and a member of the RYA Champion Club Scheme.  The club is also bidding to become one of the very few RYA high performance clubs. Through our Torbay Youth Sailing Trust, we offer RYA courses. We run RYA Stages 1 to 4, two day courses every year and in 2015 will be 9th & 10th April, 28th & 29th May, 26th & 27th, 3rd & 4th Aug 2014. All children who attend the sailing courses become junior members of the RTYC for the year. By request we can run beginner, day sailing, seamanship skills, performance sailing,
race training and Dinghy Instructor courses with a minimum of 6 people. The Junior section of the Club is run by volunteers and we are always need parents to get involved as shore based helpers, safety boat crews or drivers and instructors if qualified. Patrol boat drivers require RYA PB Level 2 and both drivers and crews  and need to be Club Members. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have any experience, we always require help with Beach Co-ordinator, Committee Boat Crew and in many other ways as there is always someone around to help and show you what to do.
