 PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

This programme combines what is happening in the harbourside race village and also what will be going at the Royal Torbay Yacht Club and of interest to members and their guests.

Events in the club of special interest to members or where members are specifically involved are highlighted.

The club will be used as the administrative HQ for the UK stopover. Full details regarding the use of various rooms and facilities are published separately.

The club are running the bar in the race village and the club bar will be open normal times Monday to Thursday, all day Friday to Sunday.

Teas, coffees and food will be available in the club throughout the event.

Friday 19th June 2015

  • 8.00 BREAKFASTS at Royal Torbay Yacht Club
  • 1000: RACE VILLAGE OPEN
    Come on down, the Torbay Solitaire du Figaro – Eric Bompard Cachemire Race Village is open!

  • 1100 – 1300: COOKING DEMOS
    Smells good enough to eat! Enjoy live cooking demonstrations with South Devon College.

  • SCHOOL VISITS AND ENTERTAINMENT Briefings at Royal Torbay Yacht Club

  • ALL: PIT STOP BOAT TOURS
    Sign up at the Royal Torbay Yacht Club stand for your very own Figaro boat tour

  • ALL DAY: ROWING CHALLENGE
    So you think you’re tough enough? Come test your strength and endurance with the Rowing Challenge run by the ‘Oarsome Buoys’.

  • 1100 – 1900: TRY SAILING
    Put your sea legs to the test with a try sailing experience, run by the British Disabled Sailing Association. Sign up at the Try Sailing stand in the Race Village.

  • 1400 – 1600: LIVE MUSIC
    Sit back and relax to the sounds of the afternoon’s performers.

  • 1500: PRO-AM RACE
    Find a spot, bring a picnic and enjoy an afternoon of high octane inshore racing. A first for the Solitaire du Figaro – Eric Bompard Cachemire, the professional skippers and an amateur crew will race between Torquay, Paignton and Brixham as part of the ‘Pro-Am’ race.

  • 1530 – 1600: READY, STEADY, COOK
    Green peppers or red tomatoes? Put your culinary skills to the test in South Devon College’s Race Village Ready, Steady, Cook challenge!

  • ALL DAY: RACE VILLAGE BAR (RTYC)
    Fancy a tipple? While the day away in the sun with a drink at the St Austell’s Race Village bar.

  • 1700: STORY OF THE SOLITAIRE
    The Solitaire du Figaro – Eric Bompard Cachemire skippers take to the stage daily to tell their story of the race.

  • 1800: PRO-AM PRIZE GIVING
    Come cheer on the Pro-Am race crews as the day’s winner is crowned victorious on stage.

  • 18.30 HAPPY HOUR AT RTYC AND PRE OFFICIAL SOIREE DRINKS

  • 1900 – 2300: LIVE ENTERTAINMENT
    Dance the night away with great local acts Mafia 4 and Max Hutton.

  • 2300: RACE VILLAGE CLOSED
    But we’ll be open again tomorrow from 1000!

  • 1000: RACE VILLAGE OPEN
    Come on down, the Torbay Solitaire du Figaro – Eric Bompard Cachemire Race Village is open!

  • ALL DAY: DEVON FOOD MARKET
    Eat yourself silly with the Devon Food Market, selling the best local food straight from the farm.

  • ALL DAY: ARMED FORCES DAY
    Feast your eyes on the mighty Howitzer positioned at the end of Howden Pier.

  • ALL DAY: CHILDREN’S ENTERTAINMENT
    Keep the little one’s entertained all day with face painting, magic shows, dance troops and stilt walkers in the Race Village.

  • 1100: ANNUAL BRIXHAM TRAWLER RACE
    Watch Brixham’s mighty fleet of fishing trawlers battle it about around the Torbay from the Race Village.

  • 1100 – 1200: JUNIOR TECHNICAL TALK WITH NIALL MYANT AT ROYAL TORBAY YACHT CLUB
    One for sailing enthusiasts, RS Feva National Coach Niall Myant talks winning techniques and sailing fast.

  • 1100 – 1300: COOKING DEMOS

    The Solitaire du Figaro – Eric Bompard Cachemire skippers take to the stage daily to tell their story of the race.

  • 1900: OFFICIAL SOLITAIRE PRIZE GIVING
    Show the Solitaire du Figaro – Eric Bompard Cachemire skippers a warm UK welcome, as they take to the stage as part of the Official Leg 3 prize giving ceremony.

  • 19.30 MIDSUMMER PARTY AT THE ROYAL TORBAY YACHT CLUB for all members, their friends, organisers, support teams and visiting yachtsmen.

  • 2100: HEADLINE LIVE MUSIC ACT
    Dance the night away with Saturday’s headline act.

  • 2200: FIREWORKS
    Get a drink, grab a blanket and enjoy a spectacular public Firework display to celebrate the Solitaire du Figaro coming to Torbay.

    But we’ll be open again tomorrow from 1000 to see the Solitaire du Figaro fleet on their way.

  • 1100: MULTI FAITH SERVICE
    Come together to bless the Solitaire du Figaro – Eric Bompard Cachemire fleet as they prepare to leave on the final race leg to Dieppe, France.

  • ALL DAY: DEVON FOOD MARKET
    Eat yourself silly with the Devon Food Market, selling the best local food straight from the farm.

  • ALL DAY: TRY SAILING
    Put your sea legs to the test with a try sailing experience, run by the British Disabled Sailing Association. Sign up at the Try Sailing stand in the Race Village.

  • ALL DAY : ROWING CHALLENGE
    So you think you’re tough enough? Come test your strength and endurance with the Taliska Rowing Challenge run by the ‘Oarsome Buoys’.

    The Bootleg Swing Band provide the sound track to race day.

  • 1200: SHAOLIN MARTIAL ARTS TEAM DISPLAY
    A favourite on Britain’s Got Talent in 2014, the amazing Shaolin Martial Arts Team display in the Race Village.

  • 1400: DOCK OUT
    Cheer the Solitaire du Figaro – Eric Bompard Cachemire skippers off on their final hoorah to France. Leaving the harbour one by one, our expert race commentator will introduce each of the skippers in a parade of sail out of Torquay Habour.

  • 1600: LEG 4 RACE START
    Watch the Solitaire du Figaro – Eric Bompard Cachemire Leg 4 race start from the race village, with expert live commentary to guide you through the action. The fleet will race one lap of Torbay, before disappearing over the horizon on route to Dieppe, France.

  • 1800: RACE VILLAGE CLOSED
    The Race Village is official closed.

  • 1900 to late FAREWELL FIGARO PARTY NIGHT at the ROYAL TORBAY YACHT CLUB for event organisers, support teams and members.
